In this episode, you’ll learn …

  • What’s normal progress and what’s not when it comes to endurance training. The importance of setting reasonable expectations. When to expect results. A simple test you can do to make sure you’re moving in the right direction.

  • Consistency. Are you overdoing it or underdoing it in training? Some volume benchmarks you need to hit for a moderate-difficulty mountaineering trip or trail running race. The importance of tracking your workouts, plus two of my favorite fitness tracking apps.

  • Why workout quality matters. Common reasons that quality suffers, from stress to sleep to working out at the wrong time of day. How grading your workouts can help you get to the bottom of quality issues.

  • Understanding workout dosage. Why you need to put a certain amount of stress on your body to get results. Prescribed intensity and duration dosages for different energy systems (VO2 max, lactate threshold, aerobic endurance).
